Privacy Policy of Read Aloud: PDF & Book Reader
Privacy Policy
Last Updated: October 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Read Aloud: PDF & Book Reader ("Read Aloud", "the App", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use our mobile application.
Read Aloud is designed to help you read and listen to PDF, EPUB, Word, TXT, Markdown, and other supported documents on your device. Your documents are processed locally on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.
By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Documents and Files
Read Aloud may access files on your device when you choose to open, browse, manage, or read them.
Depending on the permissions you grant, the App may access:
PDF files
EPUB books
DOC, DOCX, DOCM, and DOTX files
TXT and Markdown files
CBZ, CBR, CB7, ZIP, 7z, TAR, and other supported archives
Images and other supported document formats
Your documents and their contents are processed locally on your device. We do not upload, store, sell, or share your documents or their contents with our servers or third parties.
1.2 Device Storage Access
Read Aloud may request access to files and folders on your device so that you can browse and manage your document library.
On supported Android devices, the App may request "All files access" to provide features such as:
Browsing documents across different folders
Searching for documents across device storage
Managing files and folders
Copying, moving, renaming, or deleting files
Creating and extracting supported archives
This permission is optional. If you do not grant broad storage access, you can still open individual files using the system file picker or select a specific folder for the App to browse.
The App only accesses files as necessary to provide the features you choose to use.
2. Text-to-Speech
Read Aloud uses the text-to-speech (TTS) engines available on your device to read documents aloud.
You may choose:
TTS language
Voice
Reading speed
Pitch
Text-to-speech processing may be performed by the TTS engine installed or selected on your device. Depending on the TTS engine and your device's operating system, the TTS provider may have its own privacy practices.
Read Aloud does not independently upload your documents to our servers for text-to-speech processing.
If a third-party TTS engine processes text through an external service, that processing is governed by the privacy policy of the respective TTS provider.
3. Information We May Store Locally
To provide the App's functionality, Read Aloud may store certain information locally on your device, such as:
Reading position
Bookmarks
Recently opened files and folders
Folder shortcuts
App preferences
Reading theme and display settings
Font, font size, and line-spacing settings
TTS language, voice, speed, and pitch preferences
Sleep timer or playback preferences
App lock settings
This information is used to provide and improve the App's features and is stored locally unless otherwise stated in this Privacy Policy.
4. App Lock
Read Aloud may provide an App Lock feature to help keep your library private.
If you enable App Lock, authentication information or security-related data may be handled by the operating system or stored locally on your device, depending on your device and operating system.
We do not receive or have access to your device PIN, password, fingerprint, Face ID, or other biometric credentials.
5. Sharing Files
Read Aloud may allow you to share files with other applications using your device's built-in sharing functionality.
When you choose to share a file, the file is transferred according to the operating system's sharing mechanism and the application you select.
Once a file is shared with another application, the handling of that file is subject to the privacy policy and practices of that third-party application.
6. Advertising and Analytics
[CHOOSE ONE BEFORE PUBLISHING]
Option A — No advertising/analytics:
Read Aloud does not use third-party advertising SDKs or third-party analytics services to collect information about your use of the App.
Option B — Advertising/analytics are used:
Read Aloud may use third-party advertising and/or analytics services. These services may collect certain information such as device identifiers, approximate location, app interactions, diagnostics, or advertising-related information, depending on the services enabled in the App. Such information is handled according to the privacy policies of the respective third-party providers.
If you use advertising or analytics SDKs, their names and applicable privacy policies should be disclosed here before publishing this Privacy Policy.
7. Internet Access
The core document-reading and text-to-speech functionality of Read Aloud is designed to work locally on your device.
If a future version of the App introduces online features, such as optional cloud services, online content, crash reporting, analytics, advertising, or other network functionality, the relevant data practices will be described in an updated version of this Privacy Policy.
8. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information handled by the App.
Because your documents are processed locally, the security of your files also depends on the security of your device, operating system, storage, and any other applications with access to your files.
We recommend using appropriate device security measures such as a screen lock, device encryption, and keeping your operating system up to date.
9. Data Sharing and Sale
We do not sell your documents or their contents.
We do not share your documents or their contents with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
The App may interact with third-party services only where required by the operating system or by features you explicitly choose to use, such as sharing a file with another application or using a third-party text-to-speech engine.
10. Children's Privacy
Read Aloud is not specifically directed to children.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the App.
If you believe that a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so that we can take appropriate action.
11. Your Choices
You can control the App's access to your device through your operating system's permission settings.
Depending on your device and operating system, you may:
Grant or revoke storage permissions
Select individual files through the system file picker
Select specific folders
Disable permissions that are no longer needed
Delete locally stored App data
Uninstall the App
Revoking permissions may prevent certain App features from working.
12. Data Retention and Deletion
Because Read Aloud is designed to process documents locally, we do not maintain a server-side copy of your documents.
You can remove locally stored App data through your device's settings or uninstall the App.
Files that you open or manage with Read Aloud remain in the locations where they are stored on your device unless you explicitly choose an action such as moving, renaming, deleting, or sharing them.
13. Third-Party Services
The App may rely on functionality provided by your device's operating system, including system file pickers, storage frameworks, text-to-speech engines, and sharing functionality.
These services may be provided by third parties and may have their own privacy policies.
We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of any third-party services that you choose to use with the App.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the App, applicable laws, or our data practices.
When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy.
Your continued use of the App after an updated Privacy Policy becomes effective means that you acknowledge the updated policy.
